This is to clarify that the QR Code on the new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) plates contains only vehicle information and NOT sensitive personal information.

The LTO purposely made the QR code readable by any gadget to expedite verification. Through this, interested parties, especially law enforcement agencies, may verify information about a vehicle without the need to request for LTO’s assistance.

The RFID chip contains the sensitive personal data of the owner, in addition to the details and history of the motor vehicle. Information are encrypted and may only be read by an authorized gadget.

The LTO also assures that the Agency abides by Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act. In fact, the Agency has already prepared its Data Privacy Manual.
